🍇 About the Producer
Founded by Joseph Krug in 1843, Krug is devoted exclusively to prestige cuvées, guided by its founder’s ambition to create the fullest expression of Champagne every year, regardless of vintage conditions. Careful selection of individual vineyard parcels and an extensive library of reserve wines underpin its approach, with Grande Cuvée bringing together multiple years while its vintage Champagnes reveal the character of a single harvest.
Fermentation in old oak barrels, followed by extended ageing on the lees, contributes to Krug’s signature richness, layered complexity and notes of bread, biscuit and brioche. Balanced by freshness, its Champagnes are crafted to evolve in bottle, offering a compelling opportunity to explore the influence of time alongside the art of blending.

🏛️ The Producer
Founded in 1972 by former Chicago publishing executive John Shafer, Shafer Vineyards established its roots in the hillside vineyards of Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District. His son Doug joined as winemaker in 1983, followed by Elias Fernandez in 1984, who became head winemaker in 1994. Together, they helped build the estate’s reputation for rich, structured and age-worthy wines. Shafer embraced solar power in 2004 and was acquired by Shinsegae in 2022, with its core winemaking team retained at the time of the acquisition.
The Cuvées
• Hillside Select — Flagship hillside Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 32 months in new French oak.
• One Point Five — Cabernet Sauvignon honouring John and Doug Shafer’s father-and-son partnership.
• Relentless — Syrah–Petite Sirah blend named in tribute to winemaker Elias Fernandez.
• TD-9 — Bordeaux-style blend named after John Shafer’s vineyard tractor.
• Red Shoulder Ranch — Carneros Chardonnay made without malolactic fermentation to preserve freshness.
