🏡 About the Domaine:
Patrick Bouju founded Domaine la Bohème in 2004 with just one and a half hectares. Since then, he and his partner Justine Loiseau have sought out both renowned and forgotten plots across the Puy-de-Dôme. Today, they cultivate seven and a half hectares across four villages: Égliseneuve-près-Billom, Chauriat, Corent, and Cournon. Here, regional Gamay varieties thrive alongside rare grapes like the hyper-local Mirefleurien, as well as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Fruit trees, wildflowers, and herbs grow among the vines.
Most of the vines are truly 'vieilles vignes’, Patrick's and Justine's oldest parcels are over 120 years old, densely planted at 10,000 vines per hectare with the local Gamay d'Auvergne. These grapes are smaller with thicker skins, producing wines with higher acidity, lower yields, and more structure. Nearly all work is done by hand or with horses, and the couple uses fermented herbal extracts and decoctions to strengthen the vines.
